Watercolor Classes

The Findlay Art League is offering a class in watercolor by photo realistic watercolorist Laura Barnhardt Corle. Students can work at their own level from beginning to advanced. The 8 week sessions of 2 hour classes, 7 – 9PM will start Thursday, March 18 at the Findlay Art League classroom, 117 West Crawford Street. Supply list for the class will be given the first night of class.  The classes will conclude on May 6.  The cost of the 8 week classes is $85 for non FAL members and $68 for Findlay Art League members.

Youth Art Programs

“Art History Time Warp!”

Come travel in time with us to discover how art evolved through the centuries!  Every month, we will explore a new art movement, its influence and style art.  You will learn new techniques and use various materials to create you own masterpiece to last a lifetime! 

September: “Into the Stone Age”

Discover the mysterious stone sculptures and sites that were created around 10,000-3000 B.C., such as Stonehenge in England.  We’ll then create our own ancient stone sculptures and paintings with a story to be told for years!

October: “Ancient Greek Art”

The ancient Greeks contributed many inventions and art to influence us to this day.  We’ll learn and create our own Greek pot out of clay with geometric patterns and learn about mosaics.

November: “Medieval Times”

We’ll explore how art was used in cathedrals and in castles, such as tapestries of scenes, coat of arms, and illuminated gold paintings.  We’ll then create these medieval artwork to hang at home!

December: “The Renaissance Kid”

This was a time of “rebirth” all across Europe with architecture and the arts.  You’ll become a “Renaissance Kid” by learning how to draw things in perspective and paint a masterpiece just like the master artist and inventor, Leonardo da Vinci.

January: “Baroque not Broke!”

Get ready to be impressed and feel like royalty- you’ll learn how architecture, paintings sculptures changed to impress friends and visitors.  Learn how to draw on copper foil to fool the eye and look 3-D!  Also create fun collage paintings embellished to dazzle the eye!

February: “Monet’s Impression”

This month focuses on many Impressionist painters, Monet, Cassatt, Renoir, and Degas.  You’ll learn about they painted the effects of light on landscapes and create a beautiful painting in this style.  You’ll also explore how to draw with pastels and make them look like a painting just like Degas!

March: “Picasso Cubed”

This month will focus on Pablo Picasso, the great cubist painter and sculptor.  You’ll learn how art doesn’t have to always look how it appears in front of you.  You’ll paint colorful, vibrant cubist paintings and explore abstract animal sculptures made out of scraps and recycled materials.  **Please bring any recycled items (clean plastic bottles/soda cans, cardboard, newspaper, etc.)**

April: “The Abstract Express”

Take the “abstract express” to learn about Abstract Expressionism and how to express yourself with color.  You’ll learn how colors can have special meanings and paint with fun tools and techniques!

May: “Pop Art”

This exciting month will explore Pop Artists, such as Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Roy Lichtenstein.  You’ll create fun layered prints with color schemes, use images and text in an “eye-popping” collage, and create a colorful comic scene.

Have you found your hand?” Calligraphy Workshop
 
Need help getting started with your first calligraphy hand from the Middle Ages? Curious but afraid to invest money in supplies? Come find out about some of the most used hands and try them out! This 5 hour workshop will give you some history on calligraphy styles and techniques while learning how to apply these styles for your own use.   Materials can be provided to use in class only.
